| An Act to constitute a National Commission for Women and to provide for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto. Be it enacted by Parliament in the Forty-First Year of the Republic of India as follows:- |

Short title, extent and commencement- |

| 1 |
This Act may be called the National Commission for Women Act, 1990. |
|
|
| 2 |
It extends to the whole of India except the State of Jammu and Kashmir. |
|
|
| 3 |
It shall come into force on such date's as the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint. |
|
|
|

In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires- |
|
|
| |
| 1 |
"Commission" means the National Commission for Women constituted under section 3. |
|
|
| 2 |
"Member" means a Member of the Commission and includes the Member-Secretary. |
|
|
| 3 |
"prescribed" means prescribed by rules made under this Act. |
